Kona is a beautiful Malamute mix. True to her breed, she is quite independent but loves to come in for a snuggle. Malamutes are kind in nature, so those looking for a watch dog should keep looking. She is extremely smart and will rule you if given the opportunity. Kona will need an alpha person with a guiding gentle nature. Kona has done very well with other dogs in the shelter, she is also a fan of children as long as they are respectful. She needs exercise above and beyond a yard. Malamutes will get bored and escape if they are not given plenty of exercise and boredom busters. At 95 lbs she will need a secure yard with a height of at least 6 feet. Adopters should be prepared to groom regularly, or take her to a groomer twice each year. Malamutes have strong coats that will get unmanageable if not tended to. While she is not a barker by any means, she does love to sing! Kona was adopted in the fall of 2020, the family has since moved to a new home and Kona's exploring nature has them worried that she may get hurt while out on one of her adventures. Kona needs a lot of space, or an active owner that can cater to her need to explore and be free. Kona gets along beautifully with the homes other rescue dog. True to her nature, her prey drive is strong. She loves to catch squirrels and likes to pester the family cat. We are so hopeful that the perfect home is out there. Is it yours?
